Terri%20Lynn%20Land%20StillMACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (May 29, 2014) — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land is calling for the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.

The retired U.S. Army general has been under fire over delayed care, which reportedly led to nearly two dozen deaths.

A report from the VA Office of Inspector General says at least 1,700 veterans waiting to see a doctor were never scheduled for an appointment, nor were they ever placed on a wait list at a VA medical center in Phoenix.ShinsekiWeb_small1

“Due to the recent reports of inexcusable mismanagement and possible criminal acts within the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, which resulted in several deaths of veterans waiting for treatment, I believe that Secretary Shinseki should resign his post immediately and that the VA needs a change in leadership all together,” Land said.

In an opinion piece published by USA Today on Thursday, Sec. Shinseki called the results of the report ‘reprehensible.’
