BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — A Big Rapids teenager who police believe fled overseas to escape prosecution for rape was arraigned Friday in Guam on a fugitive warrant.

Mecosta County Prosecutor Pete Jaklevic told FOX 17 NEWS that Patrick Kettner, 18, was arraigned Friday in a Guam courtroom on a fugitive complaint and was appointed an attorney.

That begins the extradition process for the teen. He can now either waive or fight extradition. Jaklevic said authorities in Guam have indicated that Kettner intends to waive extradition. That decision will be made early next week.

If Kettner waives extradition, Jaklevic said he probably would be back in Mecosta County in a week or two.

Warrants have been issued in Mecosta County against Kettner for one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (life in prison) and four counts of third-degree CSC (15 years in prison each). He and another teenage student allegedly sexually assaulted three girls over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Big Rapids High School was on lockdown Friday as a precautionary measure in the wake of the two students’ arrests.
