ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 31, 2014) – Saturday was gorgeous weather for the Third Annual Allendale Community Field Day hosted by Allendale Public Schools.

The aquatic themed event focused on “things that swim,” and gave families and students a chance to participate in hands-on discovery and exploration activities that could benefit local schools.

“This year we have even more educational activities with even more GVSU professors in the past that are coming in from the biology department and kind of sharing their expertise and telling stories, and also just expose people to what the campus has to offer, not just dropping your kid off at school,” explained Peter Reimersma, professor of geology at Grand Valley State University.

Many of Saturday’s activities help contribute to research. Organizers said they are already planning for next year’s event, adding that they are looking forward to expand the event to multiple school districts around West Michigan.
