Deputies: Horse Euthanized After Hit-and-Run

GRATTAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (June 3, 2014) — Deputies are seeking the driver of a vehicle who they believe hit a horse in Grattan Township Tuesday.

The hit-and-run happened at about 7:30 p.m. on 5 Mile Road near Lincoln Lake Road, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.

The horse had to be euthanized at the scene, deputies said.  Its rider sustained minor injuries.

Deputies say that the woman whose horse was struck was part of a group of three riders in the area.  No one else was injured.

The vehicle was last seen traveling east on 5 Mile.  It is believed to be an older model Jeep Grand Cherokee dark in color.  Officials also say it could have damage on the passenger’s side.

No description of the driver was provided.
