BYRON CENTER, Mich. (June 5, 2013) —  A big police presence in a small Kent County community has people talking after investigators began surrounding a home near Byron Center High School.  Investigators say what they found inside was alarming.

The search happened at about 1 p.m. on the 8600 hundred block of Burlingame Avenue.

Investigators said that Thursday’s search is in connection to a larger string of thefts that have already resulted in several arrests, including 21-year-old Michael Parris. Neighbors tell FOX 17 that Parris is the son of the homeowner. Parris was arraigned in May in connection to thefts in several counties.

The home is just feet from Byron Center High School, but law enforcement said it only conducted the search because school was released Thursday at 11 a.m.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department said that an ongoing investigation that has spanned several months lead to Thursday’s raid.

Investigators tell FOX 17 that they were tipped off from other home invasion suspects behind bars who said that some of the property taken from area homes and businesses could be found inside.

Law enforcement said that the stolen merchandise was taken from several locations in Kent County and several surrounding areas.

There were two people inside the home when the sheriff’s department arrived. Both people are in custody being questioned. It’s still unclear if they will be booked into the jail and charged with a crime.

Investigators said that they had received a tip that one of the theft suspects in the home could be armed and dangerous, so deputies took every precaution. Thankfully, both were taken into custody without incident.

“It was the best case scenario. Nobody was hurt. A lot of the information we had about armed and dangerous individuals we were told were here, were not here, so everything went well and safe and we are going to have a good successful outcome,” said Capt. Kevin Kelley with the KCSD.

Neighbors tell FOX 17 that a middle-aged woman and man live at the home, and that they were aware that the home owners had several weapons inside of the house.

Investigators also said that after the case is complete, hopefully they can return the items recovered to their rightful owners. This would include several area businesses.
