KALAMAZOO, Mich. (June 5, 2014) — The reigning MAC Coach of the Year is sticking around Kalamazoo until at least the end of the decade.

Western Michigan and men’s basketball head coach Steve Hawkins have agreed to a new six-year contract, according to a release from the university on Thursday.

Hawkins led the Broncos to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004 this past season, as well as Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament titles.

He’s the only coach in school history with more than 100 MAC wins.

Including public/media appearance compensation, Hawkins’ guaranteed annual income will be $385,000.
