Newaygo Man Charged In Chicago Police-Involved Shooting

CHICAGO, Il. (Chicago Tribune, June 13, 2014)-  A 39-year-old Newaygo, Michigan man shot by police was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer after police alleged he reversed his car toward officers Tuesday night.

Michael Cote, of the 1800 block of Hess Lake Drive in Newaygo, Mich., was shot by police in the leg about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of North Hoyne Avenue.

Police said Cote hit cars with his and tried to flee the scene. Police arrived to find people chasing the drvier of the car, Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden said.

He then tried to back up in the direction of nearby officers, police said. Cote also faces misdemeanor charges related to the crashes.
