WEST MICHIGAN (June 15, 2014) – With gas prices hovering around the $4 mark here in Michigan, people are doing what they can to save at the pump.

But do things like oil changes and new filters extend the mileage of your fuel? Like anything, there are myths when it comes to gas mileage.

One of those is the size of your car. The EPA says that technology has improved, and that vehicles now have variable fuel component systems to help improve mileage.

Another myth: Old school standard is more fuel-efficient than automatic transmission. Fact:  Newer automatic engines are as efficient as the old stick shift and are easier to drive in traffic.

One big question that a lot of drivers ask; “Does buying premium improve my mileage?” According to the EPA, other than cars that are specifically designed for it, you really won’t notice a difference.
