‘I Said the Building’s on Fire’: Resident Helps Neighbors During Fire

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (June 20, 2014) — The Battle Creek Police Department is looking for volunteers to help in the cleanup effort of a senior live apartment complex that caught fire on Monday night.

The Lakeview Meadows Apartments left about a hundred senior citizens displaced following the blaze.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.

Local churches and community groups have been accepting donations all week.

Battle Creek Police said that if you have a truck or a trailer, they would like for you to help transport salvaged belongings from the building this weekend.

The cleanup will take place on both Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 to 5:00 p.m.

If you can simply help lift items taken out of the apartment units, you are welcome as well.

If you would like to volunteer your time, you are asked to email SheriHarrisMI@gmail.com.
