RAYSHUN DAY2MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. (June 24, 2014) — Family members are identifying the person who was shot in Muskegon Heights Tuesday as Rayshun Day.

The shooting happened near Hume and Reynolds in Muskegon Heights. Police said they found the 24-year-old victim with a gunshot wound.

Then, just hours later, a second shooting happened roughly three miles away. This one was in Muskegon on Isabella Avenue. There, police said they found an 18-year-old shot in the chest. He was taken to Hackley Hospital where as of 10:25 p.m. he was undergoing surgery.

Day, according to his cousin Shatoya Anderson, is the father of a little girl. Anderson said her cousin is a hard worker who never caused any trouble.

“That’s my big cousin, yeah, I just talked to him this morning on Facebook. We talk every day on Facebook. Every day,” Anderson said. “I just talked to him this morning, he act like he wasn’t in no trouble, or in beef with no one. Nobody. So, why is he just…this happened out of nowhere.  I never heard of my cousin getting into it with nobody, no trouble. I don’t know what’s going on. And I won’t stop until I get to the bottom of it.”

Investigators said they have nothing that indicates the two shootings are related. They’re not saying if anyone is in custody at this time.
