KENT COUNTY, Mich. (June 25, 2014) — Michael John Dean, 36, has allegedly admitted to hitting a horse with his car in Grattan Township and fleeing the scene June 3.

The Plainfield Township man was charged Wednesday with failure to stop at the scene of a personal injury accident, a one-year misdemeanor.  Online jail records show he was booked June 16 and released the same day.

The crash happened on 5 Mile Road and Byrne Avenue.  The rider sustained minor injuries and the horse had to be euthanized.

According to a release Dean allegedly placed deer hair on the damaged area of his vehicle to try and avoid being caught, but later admitted to striking the horse after being confronted with forensic evidence.
