Red Wings Resign Riley Sheahan to 2-Year Deal

DETROIT (July 1, 2014) — The Detroit Red Wings have announced a new 2-year deal with restricted free agent Riley Sheahan.

The deal came just hours before teams could sign unrestricted free agents. The annual average value of the contract is $950,000 according to CapGeek.com.

Sheahan, 22, won a significant role with the Red Wings last season. He scored nine goals and added 15 assists in 42 games with the Red Wings this season. He also registered 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in 31 regular season games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. Sheahan scored one goal and four assists in eight playoff games with the Griffins after playing five playoff games with the Red Wings without registering a point.

Sheahan was the Red Wings’ first round pick (21st overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
