GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 2, 2014) — Shane Chambers was sentenced to life in prison for raping, beating and robbing a 77-year-old woman last September.
The victim’s daughter had harsh words for Chambers when she confronted him in court Wednesday.
“The only thing I can hope is that someone in the general population does to you what you did to her,” the victim’s daughter said. “You beat this woman to a pulp… You beat her to a pulp and raped her and took her purse on the way out.”
Chambers, 31, was convicted of the crime back in May. The victim testified during the trial that at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 19, 2013, she was beaten unconscious and woke up several hours later to find that her underwear had been removed.
The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office also said that a nurse examined the woman and found that she had been raped. The nurse said that the woman was beaten so severely that her eyes were swollen shut.
The woman is unable to drive as a result of her injuries.
