the bobGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 4, 2014) — The family of Maddy Yope said that they have a history of weddings taking place on July fourth, so changing the date wasn’t an option after scheduling their ceremony and reception at The B.O.B.

The bar is now under a ten-day liquor suspension following a decision by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.

The big wedding day has arrived, so we checked in with the family to see how their special day was going.

Yope will marry James Gomez on Friday.

Family members tell FOX 17 that they will have fun regardless.

“Our family is crazy enough and fun enough that it doesn’t matter if you have a drink or not. It’s not going to spoil their night,” said family members.

“My grandparents were married on July 4, 1936 and my brother was married in 1986 on July 4th, so it’s a big day in the family,” said Yope’s uncle, Jon Wiltse.

The couple’s first wedding blunder came when the City of Grand Rapid’s announced that their firework display would take place on the 5th, instead of the day before.

The 10 day liquor suspension follows several deaths. Three people have died inside the establishment; Kevin O’Brien and Zachary Bunting passed away last year.

In 2009, Tyler Usher passed away after falling in the stairwell.

“We are just here to spend the day with Maddy and James. It’s going to be great. We aren’t worried about anything else,” said family members.

The family said that they are planing a celebration later Friday after the reception, at a bar up the road that serves alcohol.
