Dog Daycare Destroyed By Tornado; All 36 Dogs Survive

WYOMING, Mich. (July 7, 2014) — The Well Mannered Dog Center in Wyoming was destroyed as a result of Sunday’s tornado.

The dog center grooms, boards and has a daycare for canines, in addition to other functions.

Mary Hopper said she clocked out from her shift, but when the weather worsened, she said she called her co-worker to check in.

“She said there was a gas leak, and there were dogs everywhere,” Hopper said.

“I thought she was kidding. I texted her back and asked if everything was OK and she said ‘no, I’ve been sent home and I’m covered in glass and ceiling tile,'” she added.

At the time, it wasn’t a confirmed tornado. However, the damage was so severe, walls busted and parts of the roof ripped. Vehicles out front were damaged.

Thirty-six dogs were in the building. Hopper said they were ushered to a business next door, and after that, they were transported to the Humane Society where their owners picked them up.
