WYOMING, Mich., (July 9, 2014) — As the clean up continues in Southern Kent County, help continues to pour in from across West Michigan, and even the world. Wednesday, dozens of students from Beijing, China assisted with the recovery efforts in the area of Ideal Park.

The group, working with an organization called National Relief Network (NRN), was already in West Michigan working on community service projects in Greenville when the storms hit.

“When we had a disaster right here in our community, we felt it was time to switch and bring these kids here,” said Scott Harding, Chief Executive Officer for NRN. “Our main goal, our main heart of what we do is disaster relief.”

FOX 17 caught up with the group as they worked to clear branches and clean up debris from the yard of 94-year-old World War Two veteran Al Sickery.

“At first I didn’t believe it,” he said. “I appreciate everything people do for me, it’s wonderful.”

The group is staying at Greenville Middle School for the week. Aside from the clean up, they’ve also had time to visit Michigan State University and plan to head to the lakeshore Thursday.
