GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 9, 2014) – An update to a story involving one man and his mission to slow drivers down in his neighborhood.

We’ve told you how Ron Ward has put two different signs in his front yard on Richmond Street NW near Alpine Avenue to get his point across.

The first sign read, “25 miles an hour not 55”.  That sign was damaged and stolen weeks after it was installed.  Ward then replaced the sign with another which read, “Slow down and save a life.”

The second sign was up just a day before the City of Grand Rapids took action.  Ward said he called the City’s Traffic Safety Manager as soon as the office opened on Wednesday, July 9th and informed them that his street was lacking a 25 mph speed limit sign.

The sign, according to Ward, used to sit in his neighbor’s front yard.  About five years ago, during road construction on Richmond Street, the sign was removed and never replaced.

Ward informed the department about the issue and by 1:30 Wednesday afternoon a new sign was installed near Ward’s home.

Ward said he plans to keep his own sign out in front of his home as an additional message to those who may travel a little faster than the now posted speed limit.

He also got his very own T-shirt made to make the occasion.
