red cross sign.jpegGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — According to a news release the American Red Cross shelter at Kentwood Activities Center will be closing at noon today. However, the Red Cross will continue distributing disaster recovery supplies at the Kentwood Activities Center, 355 48th St. SE through July 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.

Clean-up kits containing mops, scrub brushes, cleaning chemicals and home recovery items will be available at the location for anyone affected by Sunday’s storm. Tarps will also be available for residents who need to cover damaged portions of their homes. Individuals must provide a proof of residence (e.g. driver license, mail, or lease) in order to receive a clean-up kit and tarp. Only families whose homes were damaged in the storm are eligible to receive clean-up kits.

In addition, Red Cross representatives will be on hand at the distribution site to meet with families and individuals about how the organization can help meet their needs moving forward in the recovery process.

“If you were affected by this storm, please take a few minutes to speak with one of our representatives about how we can help,” said Chip Kragt, Director of Disaster Services for the American Red Cross of West Michigan. “Recovering from this disaster is a difficult process, but the Red Cross will be there for our community every step of the way.”

Since Sunday’s storm, the Red Cross has provided 132 meals, 1150 snacks, 87 clean-up kits, 93 comfort kits and 101 overnight stays at the shelter.
