Jeter, Tigers lead American League to All-Star Game win

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn (July 16, 2014) -- Derek Jeter, playing in his 14th and final All-Star Game went 2-for-2 with a run scored and received a standing ovation from the sold-out Target Field crowd as the American League beat the National League 5-3 Tuesday night.

The AL scored 3 times in the first inning including a 2-run homer from Tigers 1st baseman Miguel Cabrera. It was the 1st home run from a Tiger in the All-Star Game since Lou Whitaker in 1986. Cabrera finished 1-for-3.

Max Scherzer pitched a scoreless 5th inning and earned the win after the AL scored twice in the bottom of the frame and held on for the win.

Ian Kinsler struck out in his only at bat in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Angels outfielder Mike Trout was named the games MVP after a 2-for-3 night with a double, triple and 2 RBI.
