Domestic situation sends two people to the hospital

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich.- Deputies and Fire officials shut down 60th street between Patterson and East Paris Street, Saturday afternoon due to a domestic situation, where witnesses said that a male subject was assaulting a female.

The situation started around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the 4500 block of 60th street near the Reformed Church in America building. When deputies arrived on scene they found the female in a church parking lot with a gun shot wound to her arm. Then deputies found the male subject in a construction site nearby with a gunshot wound to his head. He was conscious at the scene but had life-threatening injuries.

Aero-Med was called to the scene.

The woman had non-life threatening injuries.  Both the man and the woman were taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital for treatment.

It is still unknown what the relationship was between the man and woman.

Police did find a gun at the scene of the shooting and are not searching for any other suspects. Kent County Deputies continue to investigate this incident and will seek prosecutor review on the case in the next couple of days.

60th Street re-opened around 5:30pm Saturday night.
