1. You decide 2014: primary elections today

Voters across Michigan will head to the polls in the primary election today, and much of the focus is on Proposal 1. If voters approve it, the proposal will do away with the personal property tax in favor of a state use tax. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. and FOX 17 news at ten and 11 will broadcast the results. Read more: Understanding Proposal 1

2. 9-year-old boy stabbed by 12-year-old diesKentwood playground

Police say a nine-year-old boy in Kentwood who was stabbed on a playground by a 12-year-old has died. It happened near Pinebrook Village mobile home park on Aug. 4. Police say the victim was stabbed at least once in the back with a kitchen knife. A witness says the suspect approached him, asked to use his phone, and called 911 and told police he stabbed the victim. The suspect does not appear to have a record and the motive is still unclear. 4. National Night Out in West Michigannational night out file

Communities across the nation and West Michigan will connect with police for the annual National Night Out event. It occurs on the first Tuesday of August and is meant to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention. Several counties in the area have events to mark the day.
