BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Five freight cars were derailed on August 7 at Hinman Rail Yard, police said.

Around 9 p.m. Thursday, someone threw a switch that derailed the cars on the Norfolk Southern Railroad on Porter Street near Kellogg Company. As a result, there is more than $100,000 in damage to the cars and tracks.

Railroad workers saw one person shortly after the derailment who ran to his truck once the workers saw him. That person is described as a white male with a full-sized red pick up. The vehicle has a utility trailer holding mowers and lawn equipment.

No one was injured and hazardous materials were not involved.
