BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Police say two Good Samaritans saved a man’s life when they pulled him from the fiery wreckage after a two-car crash Friday.

According to the Battle Creek Police Department, a 62-year-old man was driving a car that was stopped facing eastbound on Dickman Road at the intersection of Clark Road when his vehicle was struck in the rear by another eastbound vehicle.

Witnesses said the man’s vehicle immediately burst into flames and was shoved several car lengths into the westbound lane. The driver was unable to free himself from the vehicle.

However,  two witnesses were able to rescue him from the car, which was fully engulfed in flames.

The victim was flown to Bronson Kalamazoo Hospital by Aircare with severe burns.

Battle Creek police said: “If not for the courageous actions of the witnesses, the victim would not have survived the fire caused by the collision.”

The accident remains under investigation by the Battle Creek Police Department.
