DETROIT, Mich. — On July 25, Buck Farmer made his final start with the West Michigan Whitecaps – throwing five shutout innings in a 9-0 win against the Clinton Lumberkings.

19 days later, Farmer will make his big-league debut with the Detroit Tigers.

The 23-year-old has been called up to Detroit from Double-A Erie to start for the Tigers on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. According to the Whitecaps, it’s the fastest MLB debut for a former West Michigan player.

Farmer made just two starts after being promoted to Erie, striking out 11 batters in 12 innings, while giving up just four earned runs. That followed an All-Star season for the Whitecaps where Farmer left the Midwest League on July 30 as the league leader in strikeouts.
