Recalled: smoke detectors that fail to alert, and candles with high flames

BETHESDA, Md. — The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced recalls of certain kinds of smoke detectors that fail to alert, as well as specific kinds of candles that pose a fire hazard due to their high flames.

Here is the detailed information on both recalls:

Recalled ESL/Interlogix smoke detector, 400 series

Recalled ESL/Interlogix smoke detector, 400 series

ESL and Interlogix brand 400/500 series smoke detectors — Radio frequency interference can cause the smoke detectors to fail to alert consumers of a fire.  This recall involves 33 models (144,000 total units impacted) of the 400 and 500 series Edwards (ESL)-branded and Interlogix smoke detectors hard-wired into a security system.  They were sold at alarm system, security equipment and electrical equipment contractors, dealers and installers for use in fire alarm systems for commercial buildings, hotels/motels, apartments, dormitories and homes from March 2013 to February 2014.  No injuries or incidents have been reported at this time.  Customers should immediately contact their security or fire system provider to determine if any of their units are included in the recall.  Click here for more information.

Recalled CoScentrix “DD” Candle

CoScentrix DD Brand Tin Candles (Sold Exclusively at Hobby Lobby) — The candle’s high flame can ignite the surface of the wax and the polymer coating on the tin-plated container, posing a fire hazard.  About 126,000 units are impacted.  CoScentrix has received two reports of the candle’s surface igniting and one report of minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.  Consumers should immediately stop using the candles and return them to the nearest Hobby Lobby.  Click here for more information on this recall.
