Officers recover stolen gun after shots fired at Kalamazoo apartment complex

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Around 12:15 a.m. Saturday officers responded to reports of at least six shots fired in the Hilltop apartments near the 3000 block of Burdick St., according to a release sent out by police.

A foot chase ensued after officers arrived on scene and attempted to speak with a group of individuals in the apartment parking lot when one of the individuals fled on foot, dropping a loaded 9mm handgun.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect, a 20 year old Kalamazoo resident, after a foot chase that lasted several minutes. The suspect is being held in jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen firearm, felony firearm, possession of marijuana, and an outstanding warrant.

No injuries were reported by police.
