Teenager in critical condition after nearly drowning in the Muskegon River

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.- A 16-year-old boy is currently at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital after nearly drowning on the Muskegon river Saturday afternoon.

According to the Cran-Hill Ranch, the 16-year-old boy was tubing with a Muslim retreat group in the Muskegon river in Big Rapids when the boy went under. Officers from the Big Rapids Public Safety, were able to pull the boy out of the water north of Hemlock Park near the mouth of Mitchell Creek.

First responders were able to resuscitate him at the scene. The boy was then taken via Aero-Med to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, where he is in the ICU in critical condition.

The boy was apart of a retreat group from the Muslim Community of Western Suburbs from Canton, Michigan.

Both Cran-Hill Ranch and the Muslim Community of Western Suburbs are asking for prayers for the boy on their respective Facebook pages.
