1. Blitz begins tonight

blitz genericFor high school football teams, the journey to get to Ford Field begins tonight, which means FOX 17’s football Blitz is also back! Because of the Labor Day weekend, most teams will play tonight, and the Blitz game of the week will be Grand Rapids Catholic Central at East Grand Rapids. In all, the Blitz will cover about 20 games tonight including Kalamazoo vs. Comstock; Wayland vs. Hopkins; Belding vs. Greenville; Grand Haven vs. Fruitport; Harper Creek vs Caledonia. 2. I-96 Lane closures to return

96LC Lowell 9-5 mapDuring Labor Day weekend, drivers on I-96 in eastern Kent County will get a break from traffic jams, but they will return after the holiday. The Michigan Department of Transportation says lane closures will return on Tuesday, September 2 at 8 p.m. and will continue until Friday, September 5 at 5 a.m. as eastbound and westbound I-96 still needs pavement work. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced several recalls, including air conditioners and power cords for laptops. The air conditioners come from Goodman and more than 200 units have been recalled for fire and burn hazards. Laptop power cords from HP and Compaq have also been recalled for a fire and burn hazard. Cree LED High-Bay Luminaries have been pulled from store shelves because the glass lens can break, posing a laceration hazard. 4. Wolverine Worldwide tent sale today

SHOE SALE PICThousands of shoes from different brands will be up for grabs at the tent sale in Rockford today. Starting at 6 a.m., numbers through 800 will be handed out to shoppers. You must return to the line by 10 a.m. in order to get in by 11 a.m. and only 220 people at a time will be admitted into the tent. However, if you can’t make it by 11 a.m., there are new items every hour. You can purchase up to 30 items at a time and get back in line if you want to buy more. 5. ‘Hello Kitty’ isn’t a cat?

hello kittyAn LA Times article published on Wednesday has sent Hello Kitty lovers into a spin, because it revealed that the character apparently isn’t a cat as originally believed. Hello Kitty is actually a little girl who even has a pet cat of her own, called Charmmy Kitty. According to maker Sanrio’s website, Hello Kitty lives in London with her parents and twin sister.
