BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A Battle Creek man was arrested for kidnapping and domestic assault after accosting a woman and a child at midday Friday.

At 12:52 p.m. Friday, a citizen called the Battle Creek Police Department to report a woman with a small child being assaulted and fleeing from a vehicle in the area of Upton and Washington avenues.

When the suspect — a 22-year-old Battle Creek man — realized the police were being called, he fled in the car but soon returned and grabbed the woman and child, dragging them back to the car and fleeing from the area with them.

The pair were taken to another location on North Washington Avenue where the woman was able to convince the man to leave instead of assaulting her further.

The woman was treated for injuries from the assault.

During an interview, officers determined that a domestic relationship existed between the woman and man who assaulted her. Officers were able to locate the man in the 400 block of West Van Buren Street where he was taken into custody.

The suspect is behind held at the Calhoun County jail on charges of kidnapping and domestic assault.
