KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A former Western Michigan University student has been indicted for making Facebook threats against the school.
Onetime engineering student Timothy Vanhumlian Siangdun, 44, of Springfield, who investigators say used Facebook to threaten a shooting on campus, was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on three counts of authoring an interstate communication with threat to injure.
He faces a maximum of five years in a federal prison.
The indictment says that on Aug. 6, 2013, Siangdun posted messages on the university’s Facebook page plus Facebook pages belonging to Gov. Rick Snyder and Congress threatening to shoot students.
The indictment included the following…
- Siangdun’s message on WMU’s Facebook page stated: “Hello Parents! Get expensive life insurance for your kids, somebody is really going to shoot at Western Michigan University.”
- Siangdun’s message on the Rick Snyder for Michigan Facebook page stated: “Better be prepared for school shooting at Western Michigan University.”
- Siangdun’s message on the Congress Facebook page stated: “You all just waiting to see school shooting at Western Michigan University?”
Siangdun was a student at WMU majoring in electrical engineering at the time he posted the threats. He’s no longer a student at the school.
