COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — Coopersville  schools were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon following a telephone threat.

The lockdown began at roughly 3 p.m. and lasted for roughly an hour.  Students will be dismissed at 4:10 p.m., officials said.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, someone called and threatened to harm the students and staff.

Deputies searched the area for suspicious activity prior to lifting the lockdown.

High school and middle school students had already been released for the day when the lockdown started, but some students were still in the area.  Elementary school students were still in the classroom when the lockdown began.
