CLAM LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich.- A Caledonia woman has died after the car she was riding in collided with a semi-truck on M-115 outside of Cadillac early Saturday morning.

According to the Michigan State Police, a car was travelling southbound on M-115 at a high rate of speed when it came up another vehicle travelling in the same direction and attempted to go around the vehicle to avoid a collision. The driver of the car lost control skidding into the path of the semi-tractor trailer travelling northbound on M-115 near S. 39 Rd.

When the car struck the semi, the rear portion of the car was sheared off ejecting a 24-year-old woman from Caledonia. The woman was reportedly asleep in the back seat of the car.

That woman died as a result of the crash.

The suspected driver of the car fled the scene of the crash, but was later arrested for leaving the scene and operating under the influence causing death.

The driver of the car was treated for minor injuries, while the driver and passenger of the semi-truck were not injured.

The name of the woman is not being released, until her next of kin can be notified.

This crash remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
