ALLEGAN, Mich. — Last winter’s polar vortex affected us all in one way or another.  The Allegan County Fairgrounds had to make some last minute changes when the snow melted away.

The heavy snow on the roofs of the livestock barns caused a few to collapse.  When the fairgrounds opened this spring and officials realized what had happened, they had to think fast.  Fair manager Saree Miller chose to scrap the barns for this year and replace them with large tents.

While it wasn’t ideal they still managed to put together another fun-filled fair.

A returnee to the  Allegan County Fair is "Grandma May" of May's Concessions.  Grandma May has been working all the Michigan fairs most of her life.
