WEST MICHIGAN — A strengthening low pressure center will drop south out of Canada bringing in much cooler temperatures, rain and even snow but it will be the winds that will impact West Michigan the most this Halloween.

A very tight pressure gradient will form over the Great Lakes Friday creating very gusty winds. A WIND ADVISORY has been posted for all of West Michigan as winds will pick up shortly before sunrise. Winds will gust between 30 and 40 mph with some isolated gusts along the Lakeshore near 50 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph could create isolated power outages as winds can down tree limbs.

Gusty winds will drop feel-like temperatures throughout the day with wind chills in the 20’s by late afternoon and evening. Winds will also create large swells on the Great Lakes. Gale Warnings and Storm Warnings have been issued in advance as waves could reach between 8 and 16 feet Friday with some waves in the middle of Lake Michigan growing to over 20 feet.

Winds will calm late Friday evening as high pressure moves in for the weekend but temperatures will remain chilly.
