Motorsports business destroyed in fire, Amish community pulls vehicles away from flames

FREMONT, Mich. – Roughly 85 firefighters from 14 departments responded to a fire Wednesday at David Allen Racing Motorsports, 11995 N. Maple Island Road. The blaze even rekindled in the morning, forcing yet another mutual aid response from surrounding communities.

The fire at the Fremont business was reported at about 7:45 p.m., according to Newaygo County dispatchers.

Once the flames were under control, there was still a natural gas line that had caught fire, keeping crews at the scene a little after 3 a.m.

The building is considered a total loss, but no injuries have been reported.

Insurance specialists believe the fire caused up to $3 million in damage, but it didn't take everything.

Men from the Amish community saw the flames and believed it was their duty to step in and help, bravely carrying out snowmobiles and ATV’s through the smokeIn fact, some Amish men we spoke with own their own business nearby.

"I was like well, ‘we're going to help wherever we can because I know a disaster like this, every bit helps," said Marty Miller of Troyer and Sons.

John Mullet, Owner of Troyer and Sons agreed.

“Yeah just whatever, whatever I could do to help,” said John Mullet of Troyer and Sons.

Wednesday's fire took 14 fire departments, more than 80 firefighters and more than 12 hours to stop the blaze.

Once the flames were under control, there was still a natural gas line that had caught fire, keeping crews at the scene a little after 3 a.m.

The owner of the business posted about the fire on Facebook, which immediately garnered a heavy response from the community.
