BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. — A Coldwater man is being held on attempted murder charges after an early morning Friday stabbing in Coldwater Township.

The 22-year-old man’s name has not been released because he has not yet been arraigned in court.

According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:47 a.m. Friday deputies responded to Raymond Drive in Coldwater Township regarding a report of a man with a knife trying to stab another man. Deputies were advised by Central Dispatch that the suspect had fled the residence and was covered in blood.

Deputies located the suspect within four minutes of receiving the call and placed him in protective custody until details could be investigated.

Life Care Ambulance was called to the scene for the injured man.

The investigation shows that after leaving a local bar, the suspect, the victim — a 20-year-old man from Coldwater — and a woman went to the Raymond Drive residence. After a while the suspect became violent and attempted several times to stab the victim, who sustained multiple lacerations from the knife attack.

The victim and the woman were able to fight off the suspect, who fled after 9-1-1 was called.

The victim was transported to the Branch County Community Health Center for treatment.

The suspect was arrested on attempted murder charges and is being held at the Branch County Jail.
