COLDWATER, Mich. – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Coldwater Post attempted to stop a suspect after swerving on the roadway Sunday, at approximately 5:30 P.M. Troopers observed the suspect’s vehicle exit the freeway at the Fenn Road exit. The suspect then turned onto the exit ramp, nearly side swiping a stopped vehicle at the exit ramp intersection.

The suspect immediately accelerated away from Troopers after entering the exit ramp towards I-69 into oncoming traffic. Upon entering the freeway, the suspect was almost struck head on, by a semi-truck travelling north bound.

After the suspect avoided the collision with the semi, the vehicle left the roadway towards the median-side, before losing control. The suspect’s vehicle crossed both lanes, striking a vehicle occupied by a family of six. The victim’s vehicle was hit on the drivers side and nearly flipped before entering a ditch. The suspect’s vehicle also came to rest in the ditch and was immediately engulfed in flames.

The suspect fled on foot from the vehicle. Troopers pursued the suspect on foot and were able to place the suspect under arrest.

The victims involved in the crash were treated at Coldwater Community Health Center for minor injuries. The suspect was also transported to Coldwater Community Health Center for minor injuries.
