CHIKAMING, Mich. — Semco Energy Gas Co. has announced a service disruption to about 680 customers.

After a natural gas leak was discovered, SEMCO Energy is working to restore its natural gas resources in an area north of New Buffalo, north of Sawyer Road and west of Interstate 94.

Semco Energy technicians will be turning off service at each customer’s meter. The company says these repairs could take hours to complete and they are working carefully to restore service.

In the meantime, they have worked with officials to provide two warming centers for customers during service disruption – the Chikaming Elementary School at 13742 Three Oaks Road in Sawyer (food is available at this location) and River Valley High School at 14850 Three Oaks Road in Three Oaks.

SEMCO reminds customers not to touch or operate any gas company-owned equipment and not to attempt to restore natural gas service to their home or business.

Customers are asked to visit SEMCO’s Web site at www.semcoenergygas.com for updates.
