BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. — Six people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.

This collision happened at 3:30p.m. Wednesday on West Colon Road at Wheeler Road in Branch County’s Batavia Township.

Branch County Sheriff’s Office deputies found passengers trapped in two of the three vehicles. Lifecare and the Bronson Fire Department were on the scene providing patient care and extrication. Six people involved in the crash were transported to the Community Health Center of Branch County emergency room.

The investigation showed that a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Brett Alan Ake, 17, of Coldwater with a 16-year-old passenger from Union City failed to stop at the stop sign and headed northbound on Wheeler Road. It then entered eastbound West Colon Road and collided with a 2004 GMC Yukon driven by Andrea Marie Irwin, 34, of Hillsdale with a 16-year-old passenger from Hamilton, Ind.

The Blazer pushed the Yukon into the westbound lane where it collided head-on with a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Raymond Clarence Kulpinski Jr., 48, of Coldwater with a 5-year-old passenger from Quincy.

Everyone in the collision was wearing seatbelts or child restraints and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

The airbags deployed in the Yukon and Aveo.

The incident remains under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
