MACKINAW CITY, Mich. — The icebreaking operation on the Great Lakes this season is called Operation Taconite, and the Traverse City station of the U.S. Coast Guard has posted aerial shots of the USCG Cutter Mackinaw doing its part breaking a channel through the ice in the Straits of Mackinac.

The pictures are posted on the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City Facebook page.
