Bike rider serious after being struck by car near Lowell

VERGENNES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A bicyclist is hospitalized in serious condition after he was hit by a teenage driver Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Kent County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an accident with injuries on Burroughs Street SE east of Lincoln Lake Avenue in Vergennes Township. Their investigation revealed that Michael Cyrocki, 58, of Lowell was riding a bike westbound on Burroughs when he was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Impala driven by Ryan Hessler, 17, of Lowell.

Cyrocki was transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in downtown Grand Rapids where he was listed in serious condition Monday night.

Hessler was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
