ALLENDALE, Mich. — Three cross country runners were rescued from a raised area of land along the Grand River after water levels started rapidly rising around them.
Police and rescue teams responded to the three men after an initial report came in to dispatch saying that three people were stranded on a small island after falling into the river.
Once on scene, police found that the men were never actually in the river. They said the men were running on trails in the area when the river levels started to rise without warning. The men found themselves stranded just under the Lake Michigan Drive bridge, west of Linden Drive NW.
Members of the rescue team threw blankets down to the men from the bridge above, while a crew in a boat met up with them below.
