3 people burned in Calhoun County meth lab explosion

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Three people treated for burns Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Sunday suffered their injuries in what police say was a meth lab explosion near Union City, Mich., northeast of Battle Creek.

Authorities learned of the explosion and fire after they investigated the arrival of the trio for treatment at the hospital. After obtaining a search warrant, Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies found evidence of a methamphetamine manufacturing lab and finished meth at a home in the 1000 block of 9 Mile Road, the department said.

A 45-year-old man had severe burns to his hands and face and was transferred to Bronson Kalamazoo Hospital for further treatment. He is expected to be charged with possession of meth and operation of a meth lab.

A 42-year-old woman from Battle Creek and a 27-year-old woman from Burlington Township both were treated for burns to their hands and released.
