GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office will not file criminal charges against a Kentwood day care center where a 3-month-old boy died earlier this year.

On Feb. 19, the father of Cooper Fales picked up his son from Bridges Day Care in Kentwood with the infant already in a car seat with a covering over the top. Upon arriving at home, the father found Cooper unresponsive and police were called. The medical examiner later decided that the child died at the day care center before his father picked him up.

Kent County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker told FOX 17 NEWS that no charges would be filed against Bridges owner Teresa Mowers because an autopsy failed to determine the infant’s cause of death.

On March 23, the Michigan Department of Human Services filed a petition in court to remove Mowers’ 11-year-old son from her home permanently for neglect.

The child has been removed from Mowers’ home and placed with his father until the court renders a decision.
