Recall Roundup: Shark vacuums, Lenovo ThinkPad battery packs, Trek bicycles

BETHESDA, Md. — The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a handful of recalls this week, impacting a wide range of products that include vacuum cleaners, bicycles, laptop batteries, and even some hair dryers.

Below is the information on the most recent recalls.

Shark Upright Vacuum Cleaners — The aluminum wand can disconnect from the vacuum cleaner’s handle and remain energized with electricity, posing a risk of electric shock.  About 142,000 units are impacted in this recall.  The firm has received 62 reports of incidents in which the aluminum wand disconnected from the vacuum cleaner’s handle.  No injuries have been reported.  Replacement wands are available for free.  Click here for more information on this recall.

Lenovo ThinkPad notebook computer battery packs — The battery packs can overheat, posing a fire hazard.  About 148,800 units are impacted in the U.S.  Lenovo has received four reports of incidents of battery packs overheating and damaging the computers, battery packs and surrounding property. One incident included a consumer’s skin being reddened and burn marks on the consumer’s clothing.  Replacements are available upon request.  Click here for more information on this recall.

Trek bicycles equipped with front disc brakes — An open quick release lever on the bicycle’s front wheel hub can come into contact with the front disc brake assembly, causing the front wheel to come to a sudden stop or separate from the bicycle, posing a risk of injury to the rider.  About 900,000 bicycles are impacted in the recall.  Trek reports three incidents, all including injuries. AG Hair’s Sweet Heat Hair Dryers — The hair dryers do not have an immersion protection device, which guards against electrocution or shock if the dryer is immersed in water.  About 3,100 units are impacted in the recall.  There are no injuries reported.  Refunds are available upon request.  Click here for more information on this recall.
