MUSKEGON, Mich.–If you’re in downtown Muskegon, don’t be surprised to see some giant bird-like sculptures that have popped up on corners and in front of buildings.

The art installations are part of Avian Avatars, a new exhibit from the Muskegon Museum of Art, and designed by artists Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein.

Five of the enormous bird sculptures went up on Monday, and will remain on display through May 1, 2016.  The birds represented in Muskegon are a raptor, owl, crow, pigeon and falcon.

The pieces range in height from 18 to 26 feet tall, and are made from wire, wood, tires and other found objects. Each piece symbolizes a mythical bird, and each bird in the installation represents a unique myth with something to say about the human impact on the changing world.
