PERINTON, N.Y. — A New York gas station clerk is crediting a slushie machine with saving his life after a customer lost control of their vehicle and crashed into the convenience store.

Derrick St. Arnaud says he was too shocked to comprehend what happened after the crash.

“I had no idea actually, really for all I know the pump could have exploded; that’s how crazy it was.  I had no idea and then I turned around and saw the car sticking in here and was like ‘oh, that’s not good,'” he said.

St. Arnaud only had a minor scratch from the crash because he said he went over to the slushie machine just before the crash happened.  He said if he hadn’t gone over to the machine, he may not be walking today.

“I poured the base mix into the container and added the water, and he came to buy the paper, so I set the mix down and never finished making it; rang him out, and I’m like ‘Oh, slushie mix, explosion.'”

Police say the 51-year-old driver suffered a medical problem and lost control of his vehicle.  He is now okay.
