ROMULUS, Mich.– The Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) issued an evacuation order Saturday afternoon due to a ‘suspicious situation’. The North Terminal of the airport was initially shut down due to what they called a “suspicious situation”. Both North and South terminals were shut down for a brief period while the area was searched and secured. One male was taken into custody following the incident. Normal operations resumed just after 4:30 p.m. The investigation remains open.
UPDATE 2 (5/10 4:50 p.m.) : The North Terminal is now back open.
UPDATE 1 (5/10 4:25 p.m.) : Police are still investigating, but south end screening is expected to resume shortly.
The airport’s official twitter account sent out a tweet just after 3:30 p.m., saying that the North Terminal had been evacuated “out of an abundance of caution to investigate a suspicious situation.”
