GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The Grand Haven lighthouse was ‘buckled in’ with a special seat belt Monday afternoon.  It was all apart of ‘Seat Belt Safety Awareness Day’ recently declared by Governor Rick Snyder.  It’s a day dedicated to reminding drivers of the importance of buckling up while out on the road.

According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, seat belt use in the state has dropped it’s all time high of 98% to 93%.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teens… just another reason to ‘Click It or Ticket.’

From now until the end of May police across the state say they’re paying special attention to make sure that residents are staying safe on the road.
