GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– A shooting on the southwest side of Grand Rapids left a 20-year-old man paralyzed. Grand Rapids police named a suspect just day after the shooting, and now that suspect is a target of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

“We believe it was just money as far as we know. The motive was money,” said Steve Hetherington, US Marshal Fugitive Task Force Supervisor.

This happened in front of 51 Banner Street on May 26th. The 20-year-old victim was on his mother’s front porch when he was shot. It’s the victim’s description that’s led to the search for a suspected shooter. The shooter is considered armed and dangerous.

“He is a felon with a gun and he obviously had tried to rob someone already. If he does have a gun, and he’s willing to shoot somebody over money, then he is definitely someone that the public needs to be on the lookout for,” said Hetherington.

Hetherington says they are looking for 26-year-old Ryan Lorenz, who is now considered armed and dangerous.

“It’s not a good thing for anyone to rob someone else, however, especially not good if you know the person you are robbing. The victim knew who the robber was in this case, and was able to identify him by name,” said Hetherington.

Although authorities haven’t spotted the 5’11 and 190 pound suspect yet, they say he won’t go unnoticed if the public is keeping their eyes out.

“He is very hard to miss. He has gotten a full neck sleeve with tattoos.”

He is wanted on a series of charges for the Banner Street shooting.

“Multiple counts from the Kent County prosecutor’s office includes assault with intent to murder, possession of a fire arm, and other weapons offenses, including armed robbery.”

This isn’t Lorenz’s first run-in wiht the law, who’s also wanted for violating his parole.

“It was assault in Kentwood, and it was distribution of meth that he was originally on parole for.”

Lorenz’s hang outs are the Black Hills area in Grand Rapids and Hunter Ridge Apartments in Kentwood. Also, he has family and friends in Muskegon and White Cloud, but he’s change up his routine.

“We think there’s a chance he’s fled obviously from Michigan. So if anyone has any information about that there is a cash reward for any information related to his arrest.”

So that the Banner Street neighborhood and other communities can sleep a little better.
